Happy 3rd Birthday, Sophia!

The birthday princess!

Our little girl is 3 years old! Grandma Chris & grandpa Gerry came from Wenatchee to share this special day with us. We combined Sophia's birthday celebration with celebrating my 35th birthday which was just 12 days ago.

A couple of weeks before her 3rd birthday Sophia became fully potty trained. She just fell in love with her adorable Dora the Explorer underwear, & my Mom's chocolate coin rewards probably did the trick. My Mom has been working on potty training Sophia ever since coming to live with us 5 months ago. Sophia was pretty stubborn at first & would even attempt to run away from babushka whenever she caught her pooping in her diaper. My Mom would just shake her head, "You are such a big girl & still poop in your diaper!" I didn't want Sophia be too traumatized (I was afraid she may start holding her pees & poos instead), but babushka persisted. She probably talked about going potty with Sophia several times a day for several weeks in a row & it paid off! Only one baby in diapers for us from now on & no more having to pack a diaper bag with us everywhere. Sophia still wears her diaper during the night & for naps, but it usually stays dry.

My husband is still Sophia's favorite person in the whole world. When he is at home she won't let anyone else to dress, feed or wash her. We often ask her, "Sophia, do you love Mommy or Daddy more?" She gives the same answer every time, "Daddy!" :-) Of course, it's no surprise she sleeps with Daddy too. I have no idea when & how we are going to transition the kids to sleeping in their own beds. Our current sleeping arrangement works so well for us.

Sophia has never been a picky eater. She doesn't complain & eats whatever is served. Unlike Gerritt, she loves vegetables, especially steamed broccoli & raw baby carrots. She also loves milk. She used to drink it from her baby bottle for breakfast, lunch & dinner, but my Mom put an end to it as well. It took a couple of weeks & a few spilling accidents, but Sophia now uses a real glass to drink her milk, juice & water. What a big girl she is!

Tickle, tickle, tickle!

Sophia's favorite form of exercise is jumping. We call her our little mountain goat because she often climbs on chairs, beds & couches in order to jump off them. I usually know if Sophia is awake in the morning or after her nap because I would hear this loud Thud! & feel the floor shaking. I can only laugh, "Here she goes again!" My husband's Mom worries Sophia will get arthritis in her knees as she gets older. Hopefully, it is just another phase she'll grow out of soon.

Sophia loves to cuddle & hug. She is thoughtful & sweet. Every time she gets a treat, she will not enjoy it until Gerritt gets one too. I am often surprised how unselfish she is for her young age. She is also fiercely independent & can easily entertain herself for hours. She isn't interested in dolls as much as her big brother's toys. Lately, she's been playing with his set of Samurai Rangers.

Our birthday girl received some beautiful clothes, Melissa & Doug magnetic doll dress-up set & stickers (which were her favorite present) from grandma Chris & grandpa Gerry. My husband & I bought her a Boot Scoot Cruiser. Happy birthday, Sophiichka!
