The Northwest Railway Museum

At the train station

Kisses!

A few weeks ago we were looking for a unique & family-friendly outing & had the most delightful day trip to a little town of Snoqualmie. We had the pleasure of discovering the Northwest Railway Museum as well as taking a 75-minute train excursion. The Snoqualmie Depot was originally constructed in 1890 & has been restored in 1981. All of the train coaches are authentic & historically accurate with limited doorway widths & steep stairwells.

"Your tickets, please!"

Gerritt & Sophia absolutely loved the train ride. We haven't seen them so excited in a while. Gerritt especially enjoyed the whole experience of buying the train tickets, giving them to the train master, climbing aboard & observing the view from the train window. The train went all the way to famous Snoqualmie Falls & we were able to savour the most breathtaking view.

Gerritt has been in love with the trains ever since watching Thomas the Engine cartoons. Although I rode trains regularly while growing up in Russia, it's more rare for kids in the US. Riding a real train provided a different & exciting adventure for all of us. We also enjoyed participating in an activity that the whole family could share.

The magnificent view from the train

After the train ride, we took a short walking tour to see all of the different trains on the exhibit at the Museum. Gerritt & Sophia even climbed some of them. Sophia absolutely refused to be left behind & had no problems keeping up with her older brother.

A beautiful park near the train station

We finished our afternoon by exploring a beautiful river park nearby. Tired, but satisfied we drove home. Apparently trains, sunshine & fresh air were just what we needed this weekend!
